We are in the Church of JOY!!!
Hola mis queridos amigos!!
First of all, I want to let you all know that here in Madrid we have not been affected by the flooding that is going on in Valencia and Barcelona, but we would appreciate your prayers for all of our fellow missionaries and friends in Spain who are suffering right now because of it! They are truly going through so much and it breaks my heart to hear about it. Other than the sad news about what the people in Spain are going through, I had a pretty amazing week! There are a lot of ups and downs in missionary work, but something I am learning is there is always joy to be found in Jesus Christ and His gospel π
Highlights/Fun facts:
- Adriana's Baptism!!!! About 2 months ago we started teaching our friend Adriana, and yesterday she made the decision to be baptized! I feel so blessed to have been able to be a part of her journey and watch how she has grown and changed through the Atonement of Christ and found her testimony of Him and His gospel! It was one of the most joyful days ever! She was literally glowing, and almost the entire ward stayed to support her and congratulate her which was amazing π
- We were finally able to set up a lesson with our friend Eley who we found street contacting almost a month ago! She has been super busy, but we were able to set up a time to go visit her and her 2 daughters Gloria and Alison and it was awesome! We are going over to visit them again this week and I'm super excited!
- Some members came to the church on Thursday night after our English class and they were having a barbecue and playing soccer! We got to join in, and it was super fun! It was my first time playing soccer in doc martens, bit it worked out and I was still able to play pretty well. I have missed playing soccer, and they are all so fun to play with so it was awesome π
- We had a lesson planned with our friend Marisol and her two lovely kids Caleb and Genesis, and when we got to her house, she said she had invited her friend and her two daughters to join the lesson as well!! We had a great lesson about the gospel of Jesus Christ, and Marisol was testifying of the church and the truth of what we are saying and it was so cool! We are now planning on meeting with them all once a week and I'm so excited!
Miracle:
We have a friend who hasn't been responding to us in a while, but we have her address, so we decided to drop by with a little treat to try and say hi! We rang the doorbell on the outside of the building and a man answered and said that no one with her name lived there... I felt like we should just call her and she ended up replying saying that she shares her apartment with other people but she could come down and say hi!! It was super amazing that she responded and we were there to give her a treat and set up a time to meet!!
Spiritual Thought:
I really loved Elder Kearon's talk from this last conference, "Welcome to the Church of Joy!" because it is so true! I have seen so much throughout my mission and especially this week that turning to Christ and being a part of His church brings the truest joy possible!
"Because of the redeeming life and mission of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, we can—and should—be the most joyful people on earth!"
I just want to leave you with this quote from his talk, and I invite you all to look for the joy this week because I promise you will find it if you look to Jesus Christ π
I love you all so much! Thank you for your prayers! I would love to hear from you anytime, it seriously makes my day π
Con todo mi amor,
Hermana Hardy π
